Most of our friends ask us one question when we are getting together, “how do I choose the best smartphone.” And it is a great question, because so much of our lives has come to revolve around the little computers that we carry in our pockets. If you are searching for a new smartphone in 2018 or 2019, we hope that our guide will be helpful. It is part of a series of guides that we will be publishing on buying various tech gadgets.
When you are searching for a new smartphone, it is important to write out your list of priorities. Figure out what matters the most to you and it will be a lot easier to choose a phone.
For instance, do you care the most about the operating system, price, specs, battery life, camera performance, gaming performance or some other factor? By knowing about priorities, you will able to find a phone with ease.
Many of our friends care the most about staying in the Apple ecosystem, but they also do not want to spend a huge amount of money on a new phone. We often recommend they get a one or two year old iPhone, such as the iPhone 8, 8 Plus or a used iPhone X.
Then we have friends who want the best camera on a smartphone. We point them in the direction of the Pixel 3 or 3 XL, along with the Huawei Mate 20 or P20 Pros.
If you care the most about battery life and performance, then you would be happy with phones such as the OnePlus 6 and 6T, along with the Samsung Note 8 or Note 9.
There are so many smartphones out there. When someone says a phone is the best of the year, it is the best according to what they care about the most. You may have different needs. Understand your needs and then seek out phones that have those qualities.
